Ray Burggraf

March 4 – April 9, 2011

Ray Burggraf received a BS at Ashland University, OH, in 1961, and in 1965 he entered the Cleveland Institute of Art, where he became immersed in the legacy of the German Bauhaus of the ‘30s, and the Op Art movement of the ‘60s. After graduating from the Institute in 1968 with a BFA, his second undergraduate degree, he entered the University of California at Berkeley where he earned an MA and MFA.  In 1970 he moved to Tallahassee to join the Art Department faculty at Florida State University. After a 37-year career in education, Mr. Burggraf retired from teaching in 2007. He continues to live and work in Tallahassee, Florida.

Mr. Burggraf has exhibited extensively in the South and Eastern USA, he has been awarded several public art projects in Florida and has received a Florida Individual Artist Fellowship. His work is held in numerous public collections;   Montgomery Museum, AL, University of Alabama, Birmingham, Vanderbilt University, TN, and Florida State University among them.
